Alicante Bouschet
The Alicante Bouschet variety, in turn, is of French origin, however we can say that its origin only remains in the name, because it was “adopted” by us over 1000 years ago and has been present in Portuguese wines ever since. Very traditional in the Alentejo, as it is a variety that needs many hours of heat to fully ripen, it also achieves full maturation on the sunny slopes of Quinta da Boa Esperança, giving rise to wines with high structure, oily and fruity aromas. black and balsamic, yet fresh and mineral on the palate. It is a gastronomic wine that accompanies meat dishes and chocolate desserts.
Fernão Pires
The Fernão Pires variety, also known as Maria Gomes, is one of the most planted white varieties in the country. It is usually vinified in batch with the Arinto variety, because they are complete. At Quinta da Boa Esperança, we bet on vinifying it solo and it was a winning bet, with an earlier harvest and controlled production, we managed to maintain the acidity and freshness of the variety and enhance the characteristics that will always enhance it, its floral aroma and tropical in balance with an oily mouth structure. It is a perfect wine for baked fish and more elaborate fish dishes, its slight sweetness also goes well with cod dishes, as well as white meat.
Touriga Nacional
The Touriga Nacional variety is the most internationally known Portuguese variety and the most planted outside our territory. It is our ambassador caste. Characterized by its floral aroma, it is a variety that expresses a lot of “terroir” where it is grown, giving rise to distinct wines, which depend on the place where they are produced. At Quinta da Boa Esperança, it originates elegant wines with a predominant but attenuated floral aroma, an aroma that coexists with more citrus aromas, such as bergamot, as evidenced by its proximity to the ocean. In the mouth, it has medium intensity structure and tannin, balanced by the component that aged in wood and by the aging in bottle, with acidity and minerality. Wine to taste and store in the cellar. Perfect for pairing with cheese.
